Wedding Frequently Asked Questions
The Venue & Spaces
What is Meanwhile Block, and what makes it unique?
Meanwhile Block is a collection of distinctive industrial-inspired indoor and outdoor event spaces in downtown Colorado Springs. Bring your favorite people, professional vendors, creativity, and personality—we provide the flexible backdrop for a celebration that feels unmistakably yours.
What spaces are available for weddings?
Choose the Barrel Building or Garage, and add the Courtyard, Lot, or reserved Fowler Lot parking. Host your ceremony and reception onsite or pair your reception with a nearby ceremony at Park Union Bridge, America the Beautiful Park, the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum, Weidner Field, or historic Chadbourn Church—the sole surviving structure of the Hispanic Conejos District. Our team can help explore alternate ceremony possibilities, but couples must independently finalize offsite reservations, permissions, contracts, and arrangements.
How many guests can Meanwhile Block accommodate?
The Barrel Building accommodates up to 400 guests, with the north end accommodating up to 200 for a ceremony. Its exposed wood ceilings, colorful glass, and abundant natural light make it adaptable for many layouts. The Garage accommodates up to 150 guests and features high ceilings and large garage doors for an industrial indoor-outdoor feel. The Courtyard and Lot can extend your event with outdoor gathering, lounge, or food-truck areas. Final capacity depends on your layout.
Can we host other wedding celebrations at Meanwhile Block?
Absolutely. Ask about rehearsal dinners, welcome parties, engagement celebrations, and farewell brunches. We can help identify an appropriate rental space and date.
How do we schedule a tour?
We'd love to show you around. Submit an inquiry or email sales@meanwhileblock.com to arrange a personal tour and talk through your ideas.
Pricing & Booking
How much does it cost to get married at Meanwhile Block?
Wedding rentals are full-day, 14-hour bookings. Peak pricing applies Friday–Sunday; non-peak pricing applies Monday–Thursday. See the pricing guide above for individual buildings, optional outdoor and parking add-ons, and our best-value full-venue buyout. A required cleaning fee and refundable damage deposit apply.
What does a full-venue buyout include?
Our full-venue buyout provides exclusive access to the Barrel Building, Garage, Courtyard, Lot, and Fowler Lot parking area for your celebration. No other events will be hosted on the property during your rental. The Shoppe is occupied by a separate business that may operate during your event; it is not included in rentals. Buyouts are $5,000 peak or $3,000 non-peak.
What is included in our venue rental?
Your contracted space, 14 hours of access, standard venue lighting, and designated restrooms are included. A shared double-stall restroom trailer sits between the Barrel Building and Garage. The Garage has two indoor restrooms; the Barrel Building has one restroom recommended for limited use by vendors and VIPs. Tables and chairs can be rented from us, with additional items available through Colorado Party Rentals. Catering, bar service, sound equipment, linens, and dance floors are not included.
How long do we have access to the venue?
All weddings receive 14 hours of venue access, including setup, celebration, and cleanup. Events may conclude as late as 2:00 AM, subject to applicable noise requirements. Your wedding coordinator is responsible for ensuring all vendors, setup, event activities, and breakdown fit within the contracted period.
How do we book our wedding date?
After confirming availability and your selected spaces, our team will prepare an agreement. To secure your date, 50% of the rental fee and a separate $500 refundable damage deposit are due at booking. The remaining rental balance is due 90 days before the wedding. We accept cash, check, and card. The damage deposit is refundable within one month after the event, subject to post-event inspection.
What additional fees or services should we budget for?
A $250 cleaning fee is required, plus the $500 refundable damage deposit at booking. Optional furniture setup is $500 and takedown (strike) is $500. You may instead handle setup/strike yourself or arrange it through hired professionals such as your caterer, décor team, or coordinator. Rental furniture is priced separately.
What if we need to change or cancel our reservation?
Changes, postponements, and cancellations are governed by your signed rental agreement. The initial 50% booking payment is nonrefundable. Contact our sales team promptly to discuss the options available under your agreement.
Planning & Coordination
Do we need a wedding planner or coordinator?
Yes. Every wedding requires an approved, insured professional planner or coordinator. Choose the level of service that suits your needs, but your professional must begin supporting you at least 30 days before your wedding and attend the required final venue walkthrough with you and the Meanwhile Block team 2–6 weeks before the event. Your coordinator manages the people, timing, and details so you can enjoy the day.
Can we choose our own wedding coordinator?
Select from our preferred coordinator list or submit an alternate for approval before hiring. The professional must work in the wedding/event industry, carry professional liability insurance, and offer services starting at least 30 days out, verified through their website/service description and your signed contract. They cannot be a guest, friend/family member, or another vendor also serving as your DJ, photographer, caterer, etc.
What does Meanwhile Block handle versus our coordinator?
Our team helps with venue-related planning, rental access, and a required final walkthrough with the couple and coordinator. Your coordinator oversees the wedding timeline, ceremony, vendors, setup, breakdown, and event flow. Meanwhile Block team members will not be onsite during the wedding celebration, but are available by phone for venue-related circumstances that arise.
Is a final venue walkthrough required?
Yes. A final walkthrough with the couple, their professional coordinator, and the Meanwhile Block team is required and included in every wedding rental. It takes place approximately 2–6 weeks before the wedding to review layout, logistics, and event plans.
Can we schedule a ceremony rehearsal?
Yes. A rehearsal is included at no additional cost and is recommended, but not required. Rehearsals are typically scheduled for 10:00 AM the day before your event. Other times may be available based on the venue calendar. Your wedding coordinator should lead the rehearsal.
Catering, Bar & Vendors
Can we bring our own caterer or food vendors?
Yes. You may choose your own caterer, but weddings require a full-service catering team onsite throughout the event to handle food, food-and-beverage management, bussing, and food-service strike. Food trucks, desserts, and late-night snacks can be incorporated as long as the required full-service responsibilities are covered.
What are the rules for alcohol and bar service?
Private events may arrange their own alcohol in accordance with applicable City of Colorado Springs regulations and venue requirements. Any event serving alcohol must use a professional bartender who meets venue requirements, including TIPS certification. Confirm your bar plan with our team before booking service.
Can we choose our own wedding vendors?
Most vendor categories are flexible. Browse our Wedding Vendors page for trusted partners and required-category guidance. Professional coordinator approval, full-service catering, compliant bar service, event insurance, and our exclusive rental partner rules still apply. Submit your wedding vendor list 90 days before your event; onsite vendors must carry appropriate liability insurance.
Does Meanwhile Block provide tables, chairs, and other rentals?
Yes: 5-foot round tables $15 each; cocktail tables $10 each; folding chairs $3 each. Linens are not included. For additional tables, chairs, linens, tableware, specialty furniture, and equipment, use our exclusive rental partner Colorado Party Rentals. Your final guest count and rental quantities are due at least 30 days before the wedding. Setup and strike can be DIY, handled by your vendors, or booked with our team for an additional fee.
Can we have a DJ, live band, or other entertainment?
Absolutely. Standard lighting is included, but sound systems and microphones are not. Larger AV installations may need generators or additional power accommodations. We recommend a walkthrough with your AV team to verify power needs, equipment locations, and logistics. All entertainment must comply with venue sound policies and contracted hours.
Decor & Personalization
Can we decorate and customize the space?
Absolutely. Floral installations, ceremony backdrops, specialty lighting, draping, lounge furniture, and personalized details are welcome when compatible with the venue. Share hanging elements, draping plans, and specialty installations with our team for advance review.
Are there any decoration or special-effect restrictions?
No open flames, candles, sparklers, or confetti. Please review hanging installations, draping, fog effects, and other specialty equipment with our team before finalizing plans. We love creativity that also protects the property and guests.
Who handles decorating, setup, and cleanup?
Your hired vendors and event team handle decorations, belongings, and rental equipment. Your wedding coordinator oversees the schedule and responsibilities. Meanwhile Block offers optional furniture setup for $500 and takedown for $500, or you may handle these tasks yourself or hire vendors to do so. The required $250 cleaning fee does not replace vendor breakdown and removal obligations.
Wedding Day Logistics
What should we know about deliveries, setup, and breakdown?
Vendor arrivals, deliveries, setup, your event, and complete breakdown must occur within your contracted 14-hour rental window unless separately approved. Your wedding coordinator is responsible for scheduling and overseeing these activities.
What happens if the weather doesn't cooperate?
Colorado weather can change quickly. If you're using the Courtyard, Lot, or an offsite ceremony location, develop a weather plan with your coordinator. Indoor alternatives depend on the spaces you've reserved and their availability; discuss backup arrangements before the wedding.
Are there restrictions on event hours, music, or noise?
Your wedding rental includes 14 hours of access, with an event end time as late as 2:00 AM. All amplified music, outdoor activities, and entertainment must comply with applicable city regulations and venue policies. Review your plans with your entertainment team and coordinator.
Can we take wedding photos throughout Meanwhile Block?
Yes, within the areas included in your rental. The industrial details and nearby downtown landmarks offer striking backdrops. Photography elsewhere on the property or at offsite locations may require additional permission.
Guests & Amenities
Where is Meanwhile Block, and where should guests park?
Find us at 119 W. Costilla Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. The Fowler Lot has 90 parking spaces and can be reserved separately with an individual venue rental; exclusive use is included in the full-venue buyout.
Is Meanwhile Block accessible for guests with mobility needs?
Both the Barrel Building and Garage have large garage-door openings, but some surfaces may be uneven and restroom approaches may be tight. None of the existing restrooms are ADA accessible. ADA-compliant portable restrooms can be rented. Please discuss mobility and access needs with our team before booking so guests can plan with accurate information.
Are there getting-ready spaces for the wedding party?
With a Garage rental or full-venue buyout, office-style spaces at the front of the building may be used for wedding-party preparations. Couples can bring furnishings and amenities to make these areas comfortable for hair, makeup, dressing, and relaxing.
Are pets and children welcome?
Yes. Pets are welcome in all buildings but must leave the property before the main meal and amplified music begin. Please arrange for a designated handler and transportation. Children are welcome.
Are there hotels and things to do nearby?
Downtown Colorado Springs offers lodging, dining, and attractions close to the Block. Explore our preferred lodging partners, including Kinship Landing and The Mining Exchange, as well as the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum, Weidner Field, Pikes Peak Center, and nearby restaurants. We're close to I-25 and approximately 20 minutes from Colorado Springs Airport, traffic permitting.
Policies & Final Details
What insurance and professional vendor requirements apply?
Event insurance is required and must meet the coverage terms in your rental agreement. Onsite professionals need appropriate liability insurance. Weddings also require an approved, insured planner/coordinator, full-service catering, and a TIPS-certified bartender if alcohol is served. Submit your vendor list 90 days ahead and confirm final guest count and rentals 30 days ahead.
Are there other important venue rules?
No open flames, candles, sparklers, or confetti. All event activity must fit the contracted access window, and professional service requirements apply to coordination, catering, and alcohol. Separate security is not generally required. Your signed agreement contains the complete terms.
Who is responsible for damages or extra charges?
Your rental agreement describes responsibility for property damage, cleaning, overtime, and additional services. The separate $500 damage deposit is refundable within one month after your event, subject to a satisfactory post-event inspection.
